Hi All, this has been started so that we can hopefully meet people that we have not seen in ages.. I must admit, I am one of the worst offenders of not staying in touch..
Our friend 'Rolf' came a cropper on his A-Bike this morning somewhere around Harrow-On-The-Hill. Apparently he was checking out the ass of some young lady when his front wheel hit a a pot hole.. Rolf went flying and plowed his face into the tarmac.
The ambulance arrived to take him to Northwick Park A&E..
This is a video of Rolf riding his new A-Bike - somehow I think this is now going in the bin ;-)
I know this is an old one but I was sent this the other day, so I thought I would share this around..
Enjoy ;-)
BBC News sheds light on The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) latest repor at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7006640.stm.
Here's a summary:
Arctic sea ice shrank to the smallest area on record this year.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Northwest Passage was open. (The fabled Arctic shipping route from the Atlantic to the Pacific is normally ice-bound at some location throughout the year; but this year, ships have been able to complete an unimpeded navigation.)
Speaking to BBC News on Monday this week, Mark Serreze, a senior research scientist at the NSIDC, said: "2005 was the previous record and what happened then had really astounded us; we had never seen anything like that, having so little sea ice at the end of summer. Then along comes 2007 and it has completely shattered that old record."
He added: "We're on a strong spiral of decline; some
would say a death spiral. I wouldn't go that far but we're certainly on
a fast track. We know there is natural variability but the magnitude of
change is too great to be caused by natural variability alone."
So.... I'm wondering why doesn't this make headline news or are people just not bothered? I'm bothered when a senior scientist uses words like "death spiral"!
It's been 10 days since my last post about bread - and we still havent purchased any commercial bread! My homemade bread is getting better and I'm now preparing to make a 4 day fermentation batch of just flour and water so that yeast isn't needed.
Some really good stuff in the bread matters book - I will end up buying this!
an interesting article in the greenroom at bbc news (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6975945.stm) regarding the decline of hedgehogs. It seems that the suburban trend towards patios, chipped or gravelled ares vs gardens is pushing the little hogs out to the countryside.
we currently don't have enough garden space and it saddens me to see neighbours with bigger garden areas converting it to conrete or filling it with little stones!
ah well, when people are faced with no choice but to grow some of their own food there will have to be a big reversal...
